Back to Roots AquaFarm – the desktop aquaponic farm for your office

Back to Roots AquaFarm

Aquaponic farms are awesome. The balance between fish and plant is really neat and it’s a great self-sustaining method of farming. Not everyone has space for all that but there’s a small version that you can stash on your desk. The Back to Roots AquaFarm allows you to grow herbs using aquaponics.

Most large systems use edible fish. This one uses a beta fish for the purposes of fertilizing the plants. You could probably eat him but giving him a name would likely be a better idea. The system comes with wheat germ and basil but any herb or smaller green leafy plant will do. You don’t have to grow something edible either. That’s up to you.

The system is self-cleaning and self-sustaining once started. The plants live off the waste from the fish and also clean the water giving the fish a nice place to live. You do need to feed the fish though but after that, everything is taken care of. The unit is small and can fit on a desk or windowsill. The Back to Roots Aquafarm is $52.99.
