Video is a big deal nowadays, what with YouTube and all that jazz. So it’s not surprising that more people are turning to the format to tell their stories. But what if you need something extra, which you can’t capture yourself? Well there’s an answer, free stock video footage.
Just like photographs, videographers can now sign on to a free website called Pexels in order to download short video clips in a range of different categories. You can select from topics like People, Animals, Industry and others, each of which contains a selection of very short video clips in varying quality and formats.
The great thing is each video is licensed under a Creative Commons 0 license, which means you can use the clips for anything, with no need to give attribution, even for commercial projects. You can’t, however, use the clips to make someone look bad, because that wouldn’t be fair, would it? You’ll need to manage your expectations of course, because the quality of the stock footage does vary quite a lot, rather like free stock photos. But hey, it’s free right?
