If you’ve ever wished you could revert back to a simpler way of living and avoid all the complications of our tech fuelled world, then this is a site which you’ll want to visit. The Maya Pedal is a place dedicated to bicimaquinas, or pedal powered machines.
These clever devices can do anything from thresh and grind grain to whip up a smoothie, all without a single drop of electricity. Just good old fashion foot power. The main thing is they’re cheap and relatively easy to build once you know how, which is why it’s great to see that the site offers instructions, and in some cases full plans, on how to make these cool little machines.
The Maya Pedal organization is an NGO based in Guatemala, which accepts donations of old unwanted bicycles and puts them to good use, as well as promoting the whole concept of this eco friendly form of engineering. Who knows it may just catch on.
