W Hotels now use sheets made from recycled plastic bottles

Plastic water bottles

There’s way too much plastic in the world and the lion’s share of that is used for plastic water bottles. Too often, those bottles are getting tossed rather than recycled. Thankfully, the W Hotel chain is doing something about that.

W Hotels now feature Ekocycle sheets, a brand of sheet developed by Coca Cola in partnership with rapper will. i. am. First introduced in North America on April 13th, these eco-friendly sheets are made from 30 percent rPet polyester, which comes from recycled 20-ounce plastic bottles. Each king sized sheet is made from 31 of these plastic bottles. That comes to nearly 268,700 plastic bottles for every W Hotel bed in North America.

Designed to be ultra luxurious, these sheets are only the beginning. We can expect more Ekocycle products to come. So, if we have to have plastic, at least this is a great way to reuse it. Maybe Coca Cola will come up with a program that encourages people to recycle their empties directly to the company. They’ll have plenty or material and we’ll keep plastic out of landfills. It could happen.
