The Shoe That Grows will bring shoes that fit to those in poverty

Shoe that grows 1

Young children who live in extreme poverty often have to wear shoes that don’t fit.or go without shoes altogether. The non-profit Because International saw the problem and is doing something remarkable about it.

The Shoe That Grows is an adjustable shoe that can grow five sizes to accommodate a growing child’s feet. Adjustable in the front in three places, straps at the front and rear of the shoe alter the shoe’s length, and the rubber sole bends up as needed. Straps up the sides of the feet adjust the width of the shoe using snap buttons.Available in two sizes, these shoes are meant to last for five years – from kindergarten through fourth grade and from fifth grade to ninth grade.

These shoes are light, easy to clean and easy to use, and they’re able to be compressed for transportation. The first batch of these shoes was distributed last year. A crowdfunding campaign has far surpassed its original goal and so far has raised over $101,000. This means that many more children will have what we Westerners take for granted – having shoes that fit throughout their childhood.

This is another terrific example of how a creative idea, along with passion and inspiration, can make a difference in the world.
