Sometimes you need to create music, because it’s time. You can’t wait to grab your guitar, or look for a nearby busker to mug, you’ve just got to get to it as fast as you can. That’s when you’re going to be happy you’ve got access to one of these rather cool little Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator Synths.

These cute little gizmos come in a range of models, which go from the essential drum loop machine, to melody and bass line versions. Just press the right buttons, twiddle a couple of knobs and jack in to your headphones or a suitable external speaker system.

Each one comes with not just one but two 3.5mm ports, so you can not only connect up to a mixer but also daisy chain them together. The ‘master’ unit sets the rhythm and the rest follow. How cool is that? The battery powered marvels feature a 2 year standby, which should be more than enough to come up with an X-Factor smash. Or something. Priced at £49.99 each.
