Please reconsider reporting on concept items otherwise I for one will unfollow site. . It is a waste of my time reading a piece on something which doesn’t exist in the market place. You will feel better if you wait until it actually appears and then actually will have ferreted out something useful to report on
Thanks for your comment Bruce. I think, in fairness to Donyae on this, if you check the Indiegogo site carefully you will notice a number of important things.
1. The project has broken through it’s funding target, which indicates it will be completed.
2. The product actually exists. If you check the listing on the project page http://tinyurl.com/qda52fn , you will see photos of the product in action, plus a fairly detailed look at the phone app.
3, It is not revolutionary tech. It is something that is pretty easy to implement, given that there are a lot of similar – although maybe not as small – recording devices on the market.
This in fact looks like a crowdfunding project designed to act as a marketing function (gaining pre-sales) rather than to fund an ‘idea’ to manufacture.
We absolutely have a rule not to feature vaporware of any sort, and we’re approached daily to feature crowdfunded products, believe me. But we make exceptions if we believe it’s worth the story and the product looks valuable enough. Hope that helps explain things a bit. Cheers.

Not looking to get the last word however a line between “in development” and “exists in the wild” is the “buy now” button.

Agree Bruce. But this ‘pre-sell’ marketing is a new form of sales process which builds an order book before the factory gets to work. It’s not elegant, and in many cases it’s abused badly to pre-sell vaporware. However I can see the justification in some cases where the product is not revolutionary and you need to get an idea of where your main market is likely to be.
The advantage of this tactic for sellers is identifying quickly whether your product is viable at the numbers you posited in your business plan. The advantage for the buyers is they can show desire without having to commit to purchase (ie hand over money) unless the target goal is exceeded.
The problems with crowdfunding typically happen when a completely innovative product is introduced and the team hasn’t done their due diligence in terms of bills or materials, manufacturing issues etc, and the whole project falls flat because the money raised is wrong, the target price is wrong, or everything is wrong.
