Kids love YouTube. They spend hours on it watching videos of unboxing toys and building things on Minecraft. The problem with YouTube is that it’s flooded with content that is not suitable for children but appears, at first, to be fine. If you want a safer browsing experience for your child, check out YouTube Kids.
YouTube Kids is an official app from Google and is basically a curated YouTube channel for family friendly media. The videos are selected using an algorithm with a secondary layer of human review. They are then sorted into four categories, shows, learning, music and explore. All shows have been plucked from YouTube proper.
It’s important to note that this is a newer app and the algorithm is not yet perfect. You may still stumble on some inappropriate videos even with this app but the chances of your kid accidentally watching Five Nights at Freddy’s and being scarred for life goes way down with its use. As with any app of this nature, the more people who use it, the better it will get.
