Sweetwater Purifier System – clean, drinkable water even in the wilderness

Sweetwater Purifier System

You need water to survive but good luck finding clean, drinkable water outside of your sink. If you’re going off grid and looking for a way to avoid dysentery, the MSR Sweetwater Purifier System may be your ticket to that most basic of thirst quenchers.

The Sweetwater is able to take down 99.99% of waterborne viruses, bacteria, and parasites leaving you with water that has no aftertaste and won’t kill you. Ideally, that’s exactly what you want in your water. This is an entire system, not just a single pump so it does take a tiny bit of set up.

In order to use the purifier, you pump the water in and then add the recommended amount of purifier solution. Once you’ve waited a few moments, the water will be drinkable. The downside is, you’ll need to stay stocked on the purifier solution but it’s faster than boiling and will help you avoid a spending your entire outdoor time running a fever and trekking back to civilization for a doctor. The Sweetwater Purifier System is $99.95.

  • How does this compare to one of the filtration systems like LifeStraw?

    • Essentially, it works about the same BUUUUT LifeStraw does not remove viruses at all so that would be the major differences between these two. This is a more “traditional” system of treating water with a solution to make it drinkable vs others that may use a filter instead.

    • To be honest I have no idea. We’ve not had our hands on a Sweetwater unit as yet.
