Gaming headphones are one of the most subjective of personal technology. Not only do they need to look good, but also they must perform well in terms of sound, comfort and features. And all at the right price. There are lots of expensive gaming headsets on the market, but we’ve just checked out a new budget alternative which is surprisingly good.
The Edifier G2 gaming headphone set on the face of it look just like a standard budget product. It comes in a nice package, but there is nothing from the outside to suggest they will operate particularly well. But that’s where looks can be deceptive. Take a look at our video below to get an idea of how good this product is.
The product comes in a typical plastic pack, along with a user guide. The first impression of the headset is that it’s very budget price, with lightweight feel and all plastic body. But once you put them on, you realize that the sound is actually very good. The environmental audio – like incidental sounds etc – come across really clearly, and the whole experience is crisp.
The second surprise is how comfortable the set is. Even after several hours of play, there’s no heat of uncomfortable feeling from wearing these headphones. Also the attached microphone works really well, in fact we recorded the video audio above using it, to demonstrate how clear it is. The inline control for muting and volume control takes some getting used to, but it’s a small point.
The Edifier G2 headset is a surprisingly capable gaming headset for the money. While the build quality feels a little cheap compared to the expensive rivals, that is what you would expect. But the comfort levels, audio quality of both the cups and the microphone are very good, and perhaps can match the expensive models like the Logitech G430. Overall this is definitely a budget product you should consider if you are in the market.
