So you’ve probably seen the meme about Bill Gates and his wife offering textbooks for free through their website, OpenStax. This is not quite, exactly true but it is close. OpenStax is a free textbook resource that anyone can access.
The site does feature textbooks, for free, that can be downloaded as PDFs or viewed on the web. You can also pay a small fee (comparative to the cost of most textbooks) to order a physical copy of the book.
The part that isn’t quite as it seems is that this isn’t a free for all textbook depository. There are very specific open source textbooks created to work with existing curriculums if your professor chooses to use them. If you’re studying on your own or you have a forward thinking prof, it’s awesome! But it certainly will not help EVERYONE. Still, a great concept that has the potential to help quite a few people with the rising costs of higher level education. Check out the website, download some free texts.

Interesting… couldn’t see anything under LinuxFirefox (I’m well protected against ads and tracking with this browser). Unable to see anything under Dillo (but at least the site tells me I need javascript). I use Opera, without protective plugins, for emergencies and it displayed the site w/o issue. Anyway…
Fancy site with lots of SFX. The individual subjects (Science, etc) pages loaded fine but when I selected ALL (subjects), it got stuck displaying another fancy icon. Ironic, also, that an endeavor, coming in part from Bill Gates, has got no computer related books. He, along with the other billionaires, must have patented the book fonts or something…
I’m on Chrome and I had the problem at first too. I had to reload the page. I didn’t take down adblock or any of my protections but it worked when it reloaded.
