Sisyphus Kinetic Art Table – you won’t want to put your coffee on this piece of furniture

End and coffee tables are really useful things to have but generally people don’t see them as more than a place to put your coffee down on. The Sisyphus Kinetic Art Table is one you won’t want to clutter with books and drinks because it is an ever changing thing of beauty.

The top of this table is a thin layer of sand under a thick layer of glass. Between the two is a metal ball that is moved by a magnet to create designs in the sand as it travels. The whole thing consists of a two motor robot named Sisbot that is controlled by a Raspberry Pi computer.

The ball moves endlessly. Just plug it in and it will get to work. It comes preloaded with a selection of paths for the ball to follow which is what creates the geometric designs in the sand. You can let it run on auto or set it to play your favorite “tracks”. This is a project being funded through Kickstarter and although pretty pricey, it’s a n interesting use of technology to create art. You can get your own Sisyphus starting at $795.
