Why oh why do smartphones still run out of charge half way through the day? We’re in the 21st century right, so surely they can design these things so they last longer? It looks like every time they increase the performance of a battery, they have to add some stupid new feature which sucks the life out of it. Result? We still all need to carry around spare power packs just in case. It sucks. Anyhoo, rant over. Here’s a neat little battery pack which may help keep things running nicely.
The DodoCool Pocket Phone Charger is a neat little 2500 mAh battery pack which is almost wallet friendly, but is definitely pocket friendly. It’s not the biggest pack in town, but it certainly holds enough charge to get you out of trouble during your day, and because it’s so small it’s easy to carry around. Check out the video below to see our overview.
The device comes in a nicely packaged little box, along with a very nice little user guide and a small charge cable. There’s probably not much else you need, really is there? The unit itself is thin, and looks to be nicely made, with no obvious sloppy bits to mention.
The really nice thing about the product is the fact that you get the power pack, along with a built in microUSB adapter, which is perfect for when you’re running around and need a quick charge. No need to remember an extra cable! Not only that, but there’s a really neat hidden iPhone adapter embedded in the case, so you can charge both main types instantly, with no hassle. How useful is that?
The unit doesn’t charge particularly quickly, and we found that it tends to get quite hot in use, which may be uncomfortable for some people. But if you can overlook those little points, then this is a perfect pocket companion for emergencies. We’ve found that it saved our bacon at least a couple of times over the past month or so of testing. And because it’s so thin, we just jam it into a pocket and forget it’s there until needed.
The Dodocool PowerBank is a very nicely thought out little emergency power source for your smartphone or other microUSB device. The 2500 mAh is not a huge capacity, but it’s definitely enough to keep you going for a few hours, until you can find a proper power socket. If there’s one thing we would have liked to see, it’s the facility to detach the short cable and use it as a normal microUSB charge cable, if we wanted. But that’s a small nitpick. We would also have preferred a less hot running mode, which made us a little nervous. But overall? A great little product at the price.
