DIY activities are great, they’re a lot of fun but even if you are a master builder, it doesn’t matter how good you are if the parts just won’t hold up. Weak materials can be a greater threat to a project than just not following directions. This is the issue with the Bigshot DIY Digital Camera Kit, the kit that lets you build your own camera.

This is a great concept! Letting people put together their own camera will give them a better idea of how the device works and will help them become better photographers. This only a 3 MP lens but comes with a flash, internal storage, and a little LCD display. The battery is rechargeable and has an eco-friendly hand crack option.

Which sounds great! And we would totally recommend this if not for one thing: the parts are shoddy so even if you put it together perfectly, it will still likely fall apart quickly. So why ARE we sharing this? Well, just as a cautionary tale, a great idea with poor execution is a bad idea. The Bigshot DIY Digital Camera Kit is $124.45 but you should probably save your money.
