Growroom – build this sustainable globe yourself

We’ve all had IKEA furniture before. We’ve all spent an evening alone or with friends piecing together a chair or shelf set with that little tool they send. It’s time to take that training to the sustainable level with the Growroom, the build it yourself vertical garden space that can feed a neighborhood. Plans are free and waiting for your elbow grease.

You can’t buy this (but I totally would) instead, the plans are free to download so you can make this wonder yourself. This is a spherical growing space with tapered tiers that so that light can reach each level of the growing area. It’s completely made from wood and can be used to grow just about anything, all of it edible.

The piece takes 17 steps to put together and aside from the CNC machine needed to cut the pieces, all the tools are fairly simple. Sustainable building or not, this is still IKEA. The website offers the hand suggestion of visiting a make space to gain access to the needed machinery. The plans for the Growroom are free.

  • If you have a maker space near you, you should visit. I have been to a few and they are incredible places and generally very friendly and welcoming. You will not be sorry, I promise.

    • I completely agree!
