WorldWide Telescope – look at the night sky from the comfort of your computer

The night sky is dark and full of wonders. They’re mostly too far away to see with the naked human eye and all we get is bright spots of light. If you want to take a closer look, check out WorldWide Telescope and explore the sky!

WorldWide Telescope is a virtual telescope that puts together images from powerful telescopes from around the world to form a seamless view of space. It utilizes Microsoft’s Visual Experience Engine to do so and give curious people a view of the stars.

If you don’t have the system requirements to download the program, never fear, there’s a web client option for you that gives you the same interactive view of the universe beyond. You can zoom in on points and explore the surrounding stars or just stay aloof and check out the constellations. It shows the most up to date images available, which with the time it takes images to travel to us from, you know, space may be a little on the old side. Still, WorldWide Telescope is a free look at the sky above.
