Look Up – the app that reminds you to look up from your phone

Do you walk around while using your phone? A lot of us do. Just reading a quick email or checking a notification while you walk down the street. This can be a huge problem in urban environments when everyone is so busy. Look Up is a neat art app that encourages people to, well, look up from their phone.

The app works with the phone’s GPS to keep track of intersections. When you’re nearing an intersection, it prompts you to look up at the street to avoid an accident. Pedestrians being hit is a major issue in some areas, these accidents can be lessened by people paying more attention while they’re out.

The app is only for NYC it seems but it’s a really interesting concept based around safety. It would be great to see this put to use in more urban areas. It is free and opensource so if you like what they’ve done and live somewhere else, drop them a line. You can check it out for free in the Play Store.
