Haiyu – translate on the go if you’re visiting China

Are you in China but only speak English? That’s probably pretty hard to deal with. Lucky for you, there’s a machine for that. The Haiyu is a wearable translator that can help you communicate even if other languages aren’t exactly your strong suit.

This device only works for three languages, English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. It is able to translate between these three languages so English to Mandarin, Cantonese to English, etc. It uses machine learning to pick up more and more phrases and meanings and is able to translate complex sentences, not just directions to the bathroom.

On the one hand, this would appear to have limited appeal but on the other, people seem to be doing a lot of business with and in China these days so maybe the appeal isn’t so limited after all. It has a long battery life but you do have to keep it connected to some sort of data. It syncs with your phone through Bluetooth and the dictionary is constantly updating. You can get your hands on this for $99.
