Edifier R1280T – mega cool gaming speakers that don’t cost the earth [Review]

EdifierR1280TSpeakers

Most computer speakers don’t really amount to much when you get them out of the box. The cheap models are lightweight, with manufacturing quality to match. And that’s not to mention the poor sound quality. So it’s refreshing to find a set of standalone speakers which buck the trend and deliver a really solid sound at a great price.

First impressions. These Edifier R1280T Speakers have a combined a retro look with a modern sense of audio quality. These speakers have a retro wood case look made of High quality MDF wood , finished with wood effect vinyl serves as a great compliment to any home decor. What’s more the quality is already noticeable when taking them out of the box. They have that weight all quality electronics have to them. Check out our review video below to get an idea of the sound and style.

The Active Speaker comes with 3 dials for precise controls to personalize your listening experience. Depending on the preference, you can make micro adjustments of treble and bass from -6 to +6 db. Digital volume control is automatically set to a comfortable level every time the speakers are powered on.

You can connect them easily to your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, TV and other devices with RCA to RCA or RCA to AUX connections.

The speakers are connected to each other via regular speaker wire. All necessary cables are included. If two audio sources are connected simultaneously, both signals will play. To dedicate audio output from one source, decrease the volume or power off the unselected device.

Except for the on/off switch all controls of the 1280T are on the side which brings a very elegant aesthetic to them that I think would fit most living rooms or gaming setups. They even include a compact sized handy remote control. You can adjust the volume and set the speakers to mute when needed without having to reach the speakers.

Conclusion. Got them hooked up to my PC and was blown away at the sound quality, even at lower volumes. It sounds warm and natural, not like I am listening to speakers. The R1280T is more for the unhurried music lover who wants to upgrade his or hers PC gaming setup but also wants to have clear warm sound while listening to music

Are there cons? yes. while the sound quality is above reproach. the R1280T could come with longer cables, and while the speakers let you feel the quality, the remote feels cheap and flimsy.

Price. $99.99 and £89.99
