Seek – learn more about your backyard with this app

The natural world is full of mystery and wonder but we’re not all naturalists who can look at a leaf and know it’s not poison (pro-tip: avoid leaves of three and anything kind of waxy looking for starters) but that’s ok! Seek is the app that will help you explore and enjoy the natural world.

This is from the hugely popular iNaturalist site but this app is way more beginner friendly than the original. The app can help you identify plants and animals as well as collect photographs. Don’t assume that your urban environment is devoid of nature either! In the words of the wonderful Jeff Goldblum, “Life finds a way.” Get out there and find that life!

This comes with image recognition software that crawls the database and will identify that weird thing you found. And if it’s not in the database, well congratulations! You found something new! You can also pick something to look for by using the charts and maps to figure out what lives in your area. A fun, family friendly and educational app that’s available for free. Only on Apple at this time.
