Hard-Fi. A Hi-Fi with a hard disk. Nick writes in to tell me that this is the first such product to allow direct transfer of music from CD to MP3 player without needing a computer. Insert CD, press button and watch as music is transferred to the phone or player in seconds. No price yet, though.
A copy of the CD is also kept in built-in memory, making Hard-Fi a valuable hi-fi separate capable of storing around 700 albums. Tracks are automatically named from an onboard database of 1.7 million titles, allowing users to search tracks using a keyboard similar to a mobile phone. Hard-Fi will store up to 100 playlists of your favourite tracks, enough for romantic dinners, house parties, Sunday hangovers and virtually anything else. For those with more music than they know what to do with
