Sacramento Eco Fitness – workout and generate some electricity

I’m not a gym person but this is a cool idea. What if you can help the earth out by taking a ride on a stationary bike? That’s the basic concept of Sacramento Eco Fitness, the gym that’s powered by your workout.

At first glance this is a pretty standard gym. It has all the same equipment that you would find in any other gym but there’s one big difference. The stationary bikes can generate energy when you’re peddling them which is converted to electricity. This power is stored in batteries and that’s what runs the gym during off peak hours.

This isn’t a brand new concept, there are other places that have used stationary bikes in this manner but to see it in a commercial setting like this is interesting. Sure the power generated isn’t going to save the world on it’s own but what if more gyms adopted this? Every little bit counts. Check out the website for the gym location and if you’re local, why not stop by for a spin?
