Flushable Wet Wipes – not actually so flushable

Flushable wet wipes really help to keep people clean but they’re not great for our pipes or the environment. As it stands, none sold in UK actually disintegrate when exposed to water. They stay as wet wipes and clog everything up.

They are flushable, they won’t clog your toilet, but they get caught in filters and help to clog the lines. They do not break down and contain plastic which isn’t great for the environment. Once they’re fished out the pipes, they just end up in landfills as more, very gross, waste. The easy answer is to stop using them but that’s not a great solution for those that need them.

If you don’t need to use wet wipes, try not to. They’re not great for the environment. Manufactures are working towards a product that will be more biodegradable and not pose the same problems but it will take time for a solution. Until then, if you can go with something other than a wipe, please do. And try not to flush them down the toilet.
