nergy House – this house inside of a lab answers some energy questions

Heating our homes is a big deal. It’s where we use a lot of energy because no one likes to be cold. Since you can’t just move into a new, energy efficient home, we’ve got to figure out how to get the most from what we do have. Which is why scientists in the UK built a whole house in a lab called Energy House.

This is whimsical experiment is located at the University of Salford and the house is basically inside of a freezer where researchers control the conditions and record what works best. The point of this experiment is to figure out how to most efficiently heat older style homes so that we use less energy and become more sustainable over all. As a bonus, their findings may potentially lead to lower heating costs.

Although no one actually lives in the home, it’s outfitted with everything that someone would have if they did. Appliances, entertainment systems, furniture, etc. Everything but people, instead, there are cylinders that give off heat like there are people. Hopefully the study can help current homeowners heat their homes better for a brighter tomorrow.
