Bioplastics Creation – the destruction of forests raises some questions

One of the goals for the future is creating sustainable living solutions which calls for looking at more than what happens to the waste we produce. Bioplastics are on the surface better for the Earth when it comes to disposal, but we also need to ensure that we’re not over farming the land.

Bioplastics are produced using renewable materials like wheat and are generally considered environmentally friendly which they are in many ways compared to traditional plastics. However, greater reliance on them may cause an increase in farmland which is a decrease in forests. Forests consume more CO2 than farmlands so with a reduction in them, the gains from using the bioplastic may be lost in other ways.

This is just a theory but it’s something to think about. Although bioplastics are a better choice, it’s also important to start looking at reducing the role of plastics in our lives. Check out the link for the full story.
