Ioncell – a dress from made trees?

We’ve touched on the issues of pollution that the garment industry causes before. You may think that your clothes are small potatoes when it comes to trash but actually, the industry introduces many plastics as well as industrial waste to the planet. Ioncell is a new, sustainable fashion option that may change the way we look at clothing.

Ioncell textiles are made from waste. Trees, newspapers and other used textiles. The process breaks them down into a new fiber that can be spun and woven into new fabrics, yay! The end result is a soft, slightly shimmery product that is strong and withstand wear.

Though currently there have only been a few items made from this fabric and it is not on the market yet, the group hopes to expand operations with an eye on retail in the future. Until then, buy less clothes and don’t be so quick to trash things. Check out the website for more information.
