Biosolids – this resource is great if you can get over the gross factor

We don’t blink an eye when farmers use manure to fertilize fields but if someone said they were using human waste products for the same purpose, that would probably make most people say, “Eww.” Which is a real shame because biosolids have a lot of potential, if we can just get over the gross out factor.

To be fair, it’s pretty gross, it is human waste, but it can be processed into dry bricks that can be used as building material and even just with the stop before that treats for pathogens and the like making them safe for use in fields and other fertilizing needs.

We have ample amounts of this stuff and it’s safe for the environment as it’s all organic and full of nutrients and minerals. Although it’s used in some applications, it’s still greatly looked down on because of the it’s humble origins. Still, in a bid for more sustainable living, using the waste we produce instead of burning it may go a long way to a more green life.
