Sound Transmitted by Lasers – MIT develops way to transmit sound through lasers

So what if you want to whisper a secret to your buddy across the room? Right now you probably get their attention and then mouth it or text them. But in the future, the answer could be freaking lasers! Researchers from MIT who clearly spend time and money on mad scientist ideas, have developed a system that can transmit sound through lasers.

No part of this is anything you would have guessed. The system relies on the photoacoustic effect and they used water vapor in the air to absorb the light and create actual, real life sound that could be heard by a receiving ear. Pretty neat.

Since there’s always water in the air, this approach has wide application possibilities. It is still in development and they’re currently testing it over longer distances but sound transmitted through laser power. Pretty neat.
