Mobile info comes good.

Wampad

Wampad. Simply genius. A cell phone start page from Shawn McCollum with a brilliantly simple interface (ie via a drop down box). This means minimal load times and an amazingly useful list of stuff you can access very fast. Including of course, search, shopping, movies (although no ‘what’s on’ as yet), news, RSS etc etc. Love it to bits. This is definitely my new mobile launch page.

It allows you to choose a vertical search option from a drop down, enter a query and hit go. Some of the options take you directly to a site like the Myspace, weather or imdb. Other options provide you with multiple exit options, for example search provides you links to Google, Yahoo and MSN with your query embedded. That way you can check each of those sites for the same thing without retyping.

  • I just tried this out on my Smartphone and noticed that the name “WAMPAD” only involves the first letter assigned to each numerical key – making it even easier to get into. Coincidence or genius?

  • I just noticed the same thing. Genius I believe, Jeff. :-)

  • Thanks for noticing. I’m not sure if it was really genius, more like laziness. I set this up for myself first and then realized that others might like it, so I bought the domain because it was the first letter for each key becuase i’m not a fan of triple-tapping out words.

  • Shawn, I’d love the ability to add my own URLs to the list (i.e. especially yell.co.uk). :-)

  • That is coming. I’m trying to finish up registration and login. That way you can save your customizations to a database rather then cookies. With that it also opens up the ability to add your own things like yell.co.uk. I’ve got a number of ideas in the works, but as a lone developer with a day job it’s been a bit slow. I’ll make sure to send you a note when it’s ready. I was hoping this past weekend but I still had some kinks to work out.
