Keylogger DELL component?

Keyloggerindell

OK, I’m genuinely not understanding this. Did this guy really find a Keyghost keylogger in his almost brand new DELL laptop? And if so, why? And what have US Homeland Security got to do with it? And why are not more people shouting? What have I missed here?

The reasons Dell would put this in thier laptops can only be left up to your imagination. It would be very impractical to hand-anylze the logs, and very CPU-intensive to do so on a computer for every person that purchased a dell laptop. Why are these keyloggers here? I recently almost found out.

  • This is a hoax – Snopes has snuffed it out:

    Interesting though!

  • Thanks Tim, I did smell fish, as you probably guessed. :-)

  • Or maybe the DHS *wants* you think it’s a hoax. What better way to hide something than by publicising it.

Think about it. Who would benefit most from setting up a website like Snopes, apart from Mythbusters in a bid to gather raw material? Me thinks I’ll be checking up on Snopes’ checking up… or maybe I’ll go lie down.

  • DTM, tin foil hats are over there in the corner. :-)
