Bookmooch

BookMooch. Really really nice book swap system with a great design. It’s elegant, simple to get going and seems to be taking off a lot. One complaint? Will some Brits please start using the service – please pass this on to all your friends – so that we can get some traffic going this side of the pond? Thank you very much, this has been a public service announcement.

BookMooch lets you give away books you no longer need in exchange for books you really want. # Give & receive: Every time you give someone a book, you earn a point and can get any book you want from anyone else at BookMooch. Once you’ve read a book, you can keep it forever or put it back into BookMooch for someone else, as you wish. # No cost: there is no cost to join or use this web site: your only cost is mailing your books to others.

  • sounds a bit like readitswapit

  • Er…yeah Mike, but the problem with Readitswapit is if either party doesn’t have a book the others like, then the deal is off. With Mooch, you are just swapping for points, which means you can pick and choose books from different sources. It’s a small but important distinction. :-)

  • Good point. I like. :)

  • This new one sounds good, but readitswapit does have about 50,000 more books up for swapping – at least in the UK!

  • Yep, precisely Jake, and that’s the annoying part. It would be great if the two services would join forces. The swapping thing doesn’t really work for me, but the BookMooch guys don’t yet have enough international book coverage. I’ve sent off one book to California (lotta postage money!) and someone’s sending me a book from New York (lotta postage money!), but we need some home grown subscribers. :-)
