CLEO – simple way to install Firefox extensions.

Firefoxlogo

The rather gorgeous CompactLibraryExtensionOrganiser or CLEO, lets you bundle up all your Firefox extensions into a single xpi file which can be installed in one go. It’s a great way to backup and restore your whole extension list when you move machines, and also a cool way to distribute extensions to Firefox newbies or anyone else for that matter. As proof, here’s the download link to my Top 10 Firefox Extensions file. Download it, unzip and install my faves all at once by selecting File – Open File (Crtl-O) in Firefox, navigate to where you extracted the xpi file and double click the file name (RedsTopTen.xpi). You will receive:

  • SessionSaver – Resume your Firefox session where you left off.
  • AdBlock Plus – Block those annoying pop ups.
  • CLEO – One click install and backup/restore of extensions.
  • FirefoxExtensionBackupExtension – the backup bit needed for CLEO.
  • TabBrowser Preferences – Make yourself a tab power user.
  • AutoCopy – Highlight and auto copy page text.
  • PDF Download – Easy way to view PDF files (great with FoxitReader)
  • IE View – Easy way to view a site in Internet Explorer.
  • BugMeNot – quick way of getting into password protected sites.
  • GreaseMonkey – very cool way to add all sorts of extras onto Firefox.
