The Spam Call Blocker.

Callblocker

CallBlocker. Screen out unwanted phone calls, telesales, junk faxes and the rest. Simple premise. The machine answers the incoming call before it rings and relays a recorded message to warn off cold callers and welcome invited callers. Sort of a spam filter for the phone. “If you’re my bank manager, please hold.’ You know the kind of thing. £49.98.

When a call comes in, CallBlocker answers the call BEFORE your phone rings and plays a brief message that greets all callers: “You have reached CallBlocker and not an answering machine. All commercial sales calls and fund raising requests are not accepted, place this number on your do not call list. Personal and invited callers press 5 on your touch phone to proceed.” Alternatively you can record your own message. A variety of alternative messages are suggested in the user guide within the pack

You gotta be kidding! If the automated systems we have to deal with everyday on every business phone in America are not enough, now you can get one for your home. How stupid!

  2. ron says:

what sales person working on commision would take any notice of the message? they would just press 5 and tell you this was not just a sales call but a once in a lifetime chance to get whatever it was. you might buy it or tell them to **** off but they have nothing to lose, you have £49.98p! you have as much chance of stopping them than you have the meds sellers emails….

Yep, unfortunately you’re both right on this one. But at least it should stop those incredibly annoying computer made calls.

Sounds like telemarketers jobs getting a little harder..I sense frustration in Mike and Ron go red

I have used a "Screen Machine" (the same thing as this under a different brand name.) It works great! What I think earlier posters don't realize is that most telemarketers don't have a phone and aren't able to press 5. They are often using autodialing computers that transfer the call to their headsets. They have no option but to hang up.

Also, this machine blocks political calls (which aren't subject to the no-call list restrictions.)

I tell you, this is the greatest thing ever – except it doesn't work on my cell phone!

And what do we do about spam calls arriving on our Mobile Phones??? For BlackBerry users there is a service that tracks spam or scam numbers and automatically blocks calls from these numbers. Check http://www.numbercop.com
