Panic Button. A Windows freeware program which makes it super easy for a user to grab an error message screenshot, add a note (i.e. what they were doing at the time it happened) and automatically email it to a pre-configured email address. Designed for those of us who act as unofficial tech support to friends and family. We know who we are, don’t we guys and gals? Of course there are some who’d say ‘you must be crazy if you think I’d give this to Aunt Edna’, but who are we to judge? [via Linkfilter]

I got the idea after getting frustrated by reports like “I had this error message on my computer. It said that the whatsit had caused a thingy operation”. No-one ever wrote down error messages, and could never remember what they said…So, I wrote Panic Button. The user clicks (or double-clicks) on an icon in the Windows system tray. Panic Button then takes a screen shot, and displays a form where the user can enter some details. When the user clicks the “Send” button, the screen shot is sent to a pre-configured e-mail address as an attachment.
