Pure Digital Camcorder – point, shoot, play

Puredigitalcamcorder

The Pure Digital PSV-351 Point & Shoot Camcorder may look like just another solid state digital camcorder, but there are a few differences. First it comes with an integrated USB plug, so you can plug in and edit footage on your computer instantly. The other neat thing is that the software is already built in to the device itself, so no messy installation needed, and it connects automagically with Google Video to upload and share your clips.

It only sports a 2x digital zoom, and we’ll mention the usual caveats about low light results indoors (which will never be as good as a ‘proper’ camcorder), but if you’re in the market for a super super simple video capture device and don’t want to bother with your digital camera, then this might be an option. Also a great present for any young budding Spielberg in the family that wants to start uploading their works of art to an online video service with minimum hassle. $99.00 for the 30 minute 512 MB version, and $179.00 for the 1 GB model. [Thanks Gary]

The camcorder has built-in software that enables users to connect directly to video sharing web sites, paving the way for everyone from moms to teens to share video easily – privately or publicly – on popular video sites. Pure Digital Point and Shoot Camcorder features 2x digital zoom; 1.4 inch color playback screen Instant playback, review and delete features On-board software for simple viewing, sharing and archiving videos Video upload, sharing and free hosting options with Google Video and Grouper Networks Simple email functions and video greeting cards powered by Grouper Networks Home movies can be viewed instantly on TV or PC For DVD processing, return to one of over 9,000 Pure Digital-certified retail locations

  • I have one of these. Crappy video at best. Unless you have a place to steady it, your video will be shaky. And you can’t edit the video as mentioned.

OTOH: it’s a helluva lot better and easier than a phone. So it’s fun to carry around and just get goofy stuff.

And isn’t that what we all aim for?

  • Haha, thanks for that. That video is hilarious Doofus. :-) And actually the quality is not bad, considering it’s indoors and night time without a flash. It’s certainly a heap better than a cameraphone or even a standard digital camera. Mmm..maybe that’s why the Amazon reviews are so positive?

  • Great Product…sure it’s not the greatest in low light but in my opinion for the money its AWESOME! I record the kids — just keep it in the kitchen and turn it on when they have one of their funny moments. So much easier than pulling out a big camera…I was suprised at the quality…you can edit the clips in xp moviemaker…

Only downside is the 2x zoom…other than that I highly recommend!
