SofaTube

Sofatube

SofaTube is a neat little web application that lets you browse and watch videos from YouTube and Revver on your television set. As long as there’s an internet connected computer attached of course. Designed for the 10 foot, rather than the 2 foot experience see? Bigger fonts, boxes, navigation. Might be a bit sucky watching YouTube sized videos on a glorious 42” HD plasma though, eh? Still, this is definitely a bit of a subversive application when you really think about it.

SofaTube is a specially designed web application that lets you browse and watch videos from YouTube and Revver in your living room. While you can just as easily visit these two sites directly, both sites were designed to be used on a high resolution computer monitor and viewed 2 feet away from the screen. SofaTube, on the other hand, was developed to be used in a living room environment where viewers are usually sitting far away from their standard or high definition television.

  • “Might be a bit sucky”? Not at all Red, viewing web content on a large screen from the sofa is excellent and must be the future for entertainment content surely? My setup is a Mac Mini (the smallest pc I could find) sat alongside my Freeview box under the TV. OK occasionally (like now) needing a wireless keyboard on my knees is not very sofa friendly but I’m working on it. On the other hand viewing Youtube videos from the sofa is fine and very comfortable. Try it.

  • Point taken Mike, although I was referring mostly to the generally naff quality of YouTube video, rather than the utility of watching PC content on a flast screen TV. :-)
