Finetune is an interesting new online music station service. You create playlists and combine them with those of others to make up a station. There’s also the inevitable community cum recommendation cum tag thread running through it all, but for some reason it’s quite an interesting thing to play around with. I’m not sure how much extra it gives over something like Pandora, which may not have as many customisation options, but lets you listen to music in your taste-band just as quickly.
Why do I need at least 45 songs from 15 different artists? A. This allows us to comply with requirements related to Internet radio and keep the cost of our service down. Creating a big enough, diverse enough pool of music prevents users from listening to specific songs “on-demand”. On-demand listening requires a special, more expensive license because the record labels consider it to be a substitute for buying music.
