mmmmmm, I think that 5lb sledgehammer I’ve got in the garage will do just as good a job……

(As chef Alton Brown says, “I hate uni-taskers….”)

I have a paper shredder that takes cards and CDs like candy. Shredding the CDs does a lot more damage than a few holes.

Of course, you can also soak them in water until the film comes off. I discovered this when a bad burned CD was used as a coaster. Obliterated the data layer entirely. Another method is just scraping the plastic clean.

I use an old microwave to do the job…

Only £42 to export it, bringing the total to about £52 or US$104 assuming 2:1 conversion. A steal! :)

  5. Oliver says:

You could just snap them, most discs will shatter which is much more secure than punching holes in it where data can still be read in portions. Physically shredding the disk is a much better option. £52 to import is a little pricey, maybe i’ll just get a shredder that takes CDs, or just snap and shatter them like i normally do.

IF I wanted to kill a bunch of CD’s with my bank records on them (for example)
I would use a pair of garden shears to clip them up into little bits
then a microwave zap would take care of the issue as an extra measure.
