3Style Wireless Mouse – mouse and jog-wheel in perfect harmony

3stylemouseb

The 3Style Wireless Mouse is a clever little Australian developed doo-dad that combines a standard PC compatible rodent with a jog-wheel. The base doubles as the recharge station and it can operate at a 10 meter range. This is a neat little gadget that might win a lot of friends in the video editing and music production arenas. Still on its way to market at the moment, so no news on price. The video is cool and worth watching.

The 3style Mouse is like a cross between a wireless mouse and a jog wheel. As well as working in the normal ‘X’ and ‘Y’ directions, the whole mouse can be rotated, spinning freely and smoothly on its ball bearing pad. Using robust sensing technology unique to this product, the mouse can sense when it is being rotated and sends this rotational data to the computer as ‘Z’ or scroll data. This ‘Z’ data, which is a third degree of freedom, can be applied to many tasks in the computer software being used with the mouse.

  • Wireless? Am I a newb or we can guess an wire behind the mouse?

  • Heh, I thought the same thing too, but if you read closely I think you’ll find it’s the USB charging cable to the mouse basestation.

  • Oups! Thanks! I am french and when I read an english text I don’t care about all! It’s my fault!
    bye

  • Seems to me that this mouse has the same problem that the Apple iMac mouse did originally — it’s round. There’s no real tatile way to tell where the buttons are.

Hard to tell from the pics, though.

  • O’Bunny, yes and also the fact that it probably doesn’t have that all important middle button either, which could be a real drag. Still interesting though, I reckon.

  • Hi O’Bunny & Red,

To clarify, the mouse has an inbuilt orientation sensor so it always knows which way is up. By pressing the little arrow button on top it saves the ‘up’ direction for your desktop environment. Therefore you can use it while holding at any angle.

The buttons are ‘push’ for left click which covers most of the top; ‘squeeze’ for right click from anywhere around the perimeter and the ‘dimple’ button can be used for either left-right scroll (as in the video) or middle mouse button compatibility.

And yes, the mouse is shown on the recharging base / receiver in the picture – the mouse is the top bit only. A small dongle is available for laptop users.

  • Thanks Laurence. When is it on sale?

  • Hi Red,

We are aiming for late 2007 launch date. Price point somewhere around $100.

    Cheers,
    Laurence
