Forerunner 301 – GPS training feedback in a heartbeat

Forerunner301

The Garmin Forerunner 301. We continue to be amazed by the increasing sophistication of these wrist worn training aids. The latest model from Garmin features GPS tracking, heart rate monitor, multi-sport capabilities – just perfect for triathletes like us – and an auto-learn feature which adjusts heart rate settings as fitness improves. Of course we’re so fit that these things are more than a little redundant, but for the rest of you… $214.27.

This training partner continuously monitors your heart rate, speed, distance, pace and calories burned so you can train smarter, more effectively. The Forerunner 301 combines the popular features of the Forerunner 201 with a proven heart rate monitor and Garmin Training Center software to create a highly integrated personal training system.

  • The Forerunner 305 is smaller and cooler. But this larger form factor is fine for cycling. I like that it’s rechargable and the display lights up for night riding. Be sure to buy the handlebar mount.

  • 301 is out-dated for a year. It’s not using SiRF III chip so the reception sensitivity and accuracy cannot compare with current 205/305 models.
