The Big Belly Solar Cordless Compactor is a trash compactor which copes with litter in just about any location where rogue animals – including humans of course – and electricity supplies are a problem. Made from weather resistant galvanised steel and corrosion tested. Around $3600.00 a unit, but apparently the payback is fast because of the reduced need for garbage collections.
The BigBelly Cordless Compaction system runs on a 12-Volt battery, which is kept charged by the solar panel. The battery reserve lasts for a couple weeks without any sunlight. Even in winter, with short days and cold temperatures, the units require minimal sunlight. The BigBelly system performs well in northern latitudes, including Vancouver, Canada and under cloudy conditions.
These are not as green as you’d think. Due to compacting the rubbish there is no easy way to sort the contents for possible recycling.
asd – that is not true. Palm Springs and other communities sort out recycling after compaction in their BigBelly machines. The machines do not make a “brick” or bale — just flatten out the trash, squeezing out air. Much more compaction occurs in the packer trucks and in landfills.
