Nintendo Wii Fit – duh, yet again more proof that fun sells better

Nintendowiifit

The new Nintendo Wii Fit is fabulous. Nintendo is starting to wipe the floor with the rest of the oh-so cool gamer geek crowd – you listening Sony/MS? – with its great controller range and fun family oriented games and activity products. What a hoot. All of a sudden the Wii is looking like the games console to beat. [via Gizmodo]

The board is used for an extensive array of fun and dynamic activities, including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. Many of these activities focus towards providing a “core” workout, a popular exercise method that emphasizes slower, controlled motions. Family members will have fun staying active and talking about and comparing their results and progress on a new channel on the Wii Menu.

  • Well, mini-vans sell great too… but it doesn’t mean I want to buy one…

For me, the Wii doesn’t really offer enough to get me in the door… even at the low price point and promise of unique gaming experiences. It will bring lots of new people into the fold, but the review scores show that 3rd party titles continue to do terrible… and the attach rate is really low showing that many Wiis are sitting in closets…

Nintendo is targeting an audience not targeted directly by Sony and MS, which is a great Blue-Ocean strategy… but someone still has to serve the gamers that play FPS and RPGs and Nintendo hasn’t shown the wii is able to reliably do that yet.
