Metropix – 3D walkthroughs from 2D floor plans

Metropix

Metropix is a a clever tool which lets you create 3D walk-throughs of your property from floor plans. There are other products which do this of course, but the interesting thing about this is the link to Google Earth, which means that you can get an idea of the actual location of the property from a 3D rendition of it on the map itself. The company hosts the data, so it can be accessed from any browser.

For some strange reason the company has locked off its website unless you register (dumb!), but there’s some interesting stuff on their blog. I suspect that using video is a better long term option, although there are uses where walkthroughs may be better (in terms of changing decor etc).

Having created a classic floor plan, it is easy to create a three-dimensional Walkthrough at the touch of a button. The 3D Walkthrough is an extremely powerful way of ‘feeding’ the visitor’s imagination. Multiple furnishing styles are used. So as the visitor ‘walks through’ the home, room styles change in their furnishing and decorative styles. One moment the sitting room is bold and funky. The next moment it has faded into a calm and restful environment.

  • Thanks for the mention, much appreciated! (By the way, we were as surprised as you were to find we had to log in to see any of the site this morning, thankfully it’s all sorted out now…)
