This was a common job in Victorian times. They were called “pure collectors” : “pure” being what they called dogshit. It was used in the leather tanning industry and was in great demand. See Mayhew’s book about Victorian London.
Red, only you could find something like this!
Heh, I know. ;-)
If you knew what Jacob makes, you wouldn’t be laughing… :-)
L – too much knowledge thanks. :-)
Jeff – ah how true….where there’s muck there’s brass…

LOL…Would I really need to be a franchise to do this biz?
Shovel $15.00
Box of Garbage bags $6.00
Techie: no, you don’t. I’ve been doing it for 5 years now as an independent. Some of the benefits to a franchise are pre-made ad materials and a national call center.
I don’t really see the call center as a benefit, though. I know all my customers and wouldn’t want them to dial some phone drone in another state if they need to reach me.
You’ll probably want a rake instead of shovel, and you’ll also need to factor in insurance, billing software, routing software, advertising materials, vehicle expenses, disposal fees, web development and hosting, taxes, payroll costs, etc. etc. It’s a full-fledged service-oriented business like any other. Owning a lawnmower doesn’t put you in the landscaping biz… :-)
There are hundreds of us all over the US, we have a non-profit trade group and an annual convention. You haven’t had fun until you’ve sat in a room with 100 scoopers talking shop!
