Keypad Credit Card – PIN, Chip, Passcode, Sign and Hurry…?

Keypadcreditcard

The Keypad Credit Card – aka Embedded Authentication Device – is…well a credit card with a built-in number pad. Why? Well…um…perhaps because they can? The company’s last effort along these lines was a credit card with a password screen, which also seemed a little redundant. We would have thought that a PIN number, signature strip, encrypted chip, security strip number and card number was enough for most people. Maybe they’re just a tad more paranoid than we are?

For example, a user can enter his or her secret PIN into the card’s keypad to receive a numeric passcode for one-time use. To authorize a banking transaction, the passcode is entered into an interface and instantly validated by an authentication server. This process removes the need to enter a PIN into an unsecure device such as a web browser and provides a user-friendly defense against electronic banking fraud…

  1. You might be interested to know that I eventually found that this was the source of the article (it IS the source?). I went through quite a few “Source” links, only to find out that the source had sourced the content from else where. I joined the source ‘line’ at Shiny Shiny if you are interested.
