PipeBytes – innovative file transfer service is fast, private and entertaining

Pipebytes2

PipeBytes. Now here’s interesting. A new free file transfer service which sends a file directly between two parties, rather than relying on a long winded web upload process. It’s very peer to peer, but unlike BitTorrent is a totally private transaction between the sender and recipient – and all done via any web browser. Just select the file and start an upload. You’ll receive a code which you send to the recipient (via email or IM) and they can start the download immediately while you’re uploading, which saves a lot of time on large file transfers.

There is no file storage, so the recipient needs to download immediately you start the transfer, and you can’t – yet – distribute to more than one recipient, but it’s a cool idea nonetheless. The entertaining part? You get to watch a Youtube video during the file downloading time. Aren’t they nice people? (and they get to serve you an advert). Oh, and there’s no file size limit. Nice!

I am transferring some very sensitive information, how can I ensure it is not exposed during the transfer? A: While we promise to guard confidentiality of your information, it might be exposed to other parties, like your and your recipient ISPs. If you are using corporate network, your administrator also potentially may intercept your data. The only sure way to ensure confidentiality is to encrypt your file prior to transfer, using utility like AxCrypt…
