HyperDrive 4. This solid state drive array looks like a pretty cool product. The box – dubbed the fastest internal hard drive in the world – fits into a standard CDROM bay, takes a maximum of 8 sticks of standard 4 GB RAM, and gives you a solid state hard drive which is 200 times faster than a conventional disk (we’re talking 7 minutes to install Windows XP, vs 40 minutes on a hard disk, and 2 seconds to boot it!).
It’s all volatile memory of course, so you’re not going to replace your hard disk with this anytime soon, but there is a version which comes with a 16GB non-volatile backup memory module, which is a cool option. The base 16 GB model will cost you around £2,700.00. Review here.
Putting this in plain English, one HyperDrive4 is twice as fast as anything that can be done with any number of the world’s fastest hard disks in any RAID configuration. CDROM drive form factor. Fits into a standard 5.25″ CD bay. It is Bootable. It connects just like a Hard Disk or a CDROM. Does not require any drivers. IDE/PATA and SATA connectors onboard. ATA133 UDMA6 bus
Sounds like a great place for that danged swap space. Perhaps it could be called a “PAGEFILE.SYS accelerator” or something…(for the windows crowd–everybody else should know what swap space is by now)
