Groqit – keep track of what you own and avoid buying it twice

Groqit

Groqit. This barcode reading ‘personal inventory manager’ gets our vote as the saddest gadget of modern times. The idea is you’ve accumulated so much stuff – like some pathetic forgetful bag-person – that you need to carry around another piece of stuff to stop you repeating your mistakes. Dude, if your memory is this bad – or your possessions that many – then you probably need more help than this thing can supply. One for the Stuff Anonymous meeting perhaps? (“Hi, I’m Cindy and I used to be a stuff addict…”) $95.00. [via The Gadgeteer]

Have you ever brought home a movie you already had? Or stood wondering in a bookstore if this was a book you had at home – whether to risk buying a duplicate or missing out on a good read? Groqit can help you avoid these regrets and hesitations. Groqit can help you keep track of exactly what you have in your collection. It goes with you whenever you go shopping. You can check, just by wanding the barcode, to see if the book, movie or game you’re looking at is one you already have. Groqit is the heart of the patented Personal Inventory Management System.

  • I suspect the author has several thousand titles in his download collection. There are people who buy physical media. Part of the attraction of physical media vs downloads is quality. Over a period of 30-40 years as an adult, people can accumulate large numbers of entertainment items. They might have friends that also have large collections and they might be interested in buying other people presents. Part of buying presents is getting an item that is A. desired & B. not a duplicate.

I have books that I purchased 45 years ago and finally, by using my Groqit and their web services, I have a complete list of all my titles, that I can carry with me at all times. I can share that list with my friends and they don’t even have to buy a Groqit to use the site or download the list.

  • I admit it I have too many books, and maybe too much music too. And I have a friend who has way too many movies.

Now, by using the tools at Groqit.com FREE, I might add my friend can get me a Science Fiction book I dont have yet, and I can get him a movie he doesnt have. It took a while to make lists of my books and CDs, but the online tools help a lot. I can share those lists with any of my friends, too. Also free.

I havent bought the device, but it might be nice to take shopping.
