We’ve all been there, haven’t we? Trying to identify that piece of music which sounds so lovely on the fish fat advert or morning soap on TV. Well here’s some helpful resources to help kill those nasty earworms.
- Songtitle.info. Absolutely massive collection of US advertising music, with links to Amazon samples and buy pages. Useful Google search makes it even better as does the chronological listing.
- What’s That Called? Videos plus forums where you can post a query to identify the music you’ve heard. Mostly focused on US adverts, and worth a visit if some clip is really bugging you.
- Sounds Familiar. UK advertising music site. Also features material from movies, with a handy A-Z listing and of course forums.
- What’s That Tune? Another UK based site which offers a fairly simplistic database and links to Amazon so you can buy the music on the spot.
- SoundtrackNet. Great resource for movie and television soundtrack music. Lots of cool information.
- SoundAmerica. A huge collection of soundtrack clips, music and catch phrases from US television down the ages. Horrible advertising on the site unfortunately, and not that much music.
- TV Ad Music. Yet another Brit ad music site, with lots of video examples. And yes forums for posting a question.
Nice List.
I may suggest as well, , which gathers references of music heard on tv shows.
I’d also recommend http://www.secondhandsongs.com which is useful if you want to know who’s sampling or covering who in the music biz…
Also http://www.commercialbreaksandbeats.co.uk – very active messageboard for asking about songs you’ve heard on the tellybox.
