Congrats.

Congrats to Nick, Joel and the Gizmodo crew for pulling down the Tech Blog of the Year at the Bloggies last night. And to Cory and colleagues at Boing Boing for again scooping Best Weblog of the Year. What I’d like to know is what was in their goody bags at the end of the evening? (…and as ever commiserations to the losers. But you know, nobody is a loser in life really. When I think back…[That’s enough – Ed])

Al fresco deluxe.

Take one European Solar Oven (Specially designed mirrors collect solar energy and concentrate it…enough to boil, stew, grill, or bake most foods in one to two hours) a Picnic Table in a box (portable solid ash table set and nylon umbrella that unfolds from its own integrated 12” x 48” case…less than two minutes of setup), throw in a Rolling Cooler with Radio (has multiple insulated sections, durable wheels, and a built-in AM/FM radio, all of which you can pull behind you…

Sonic Devestator.

The Sonic Devestator. $300.00 assembled. Scary sausages.  This handheld space age weapon of the future is powered by (2) 9 volt batteries conatined [sic] within the handle. It is capable of emitting intense ultrasonic blasts from its output transducer…It is effective for approximately 20ft but some people are even effected at distances as great as 50ft… A good example of the type of irritation it produces is to say its like somebody scratching their fingernails on a chalkboard but at 130…

Mapit!

Mapit! A Firefox extension. Highlight a phone number on a web page and get a map and driving instructions of how to get there instantly using Google maps. Kind of useful. If you live in the US. And are near a PC. Personally I’d prefer if it ran mobile on Minimo. [Thanks Erick]

Root it out.

RootkitRevealer. Root Kit = nasty kind of  malware. RootkitRevealer = detector. Definitely worth remembering.  The term rootkit is used to describe the mechanisms and techniques whereby malware, including viruses, spyware, and trojans, attempt to hide their presence from spyware blockers, antivirus, and system management utilities…RootkitRevealer is an advanced root kit detection utility. It runs on Windows NT 4 and higher and its output lists Registry and file system API discrepancies that may indicate the presence of a user-mode or kernel-mode…

Design-a-rama.

The Designer’s Toolbox provides a superb set of tools for anyone who needs to design stuff. Like CD cases, web sites, banner ads. All sorts of tools. Even contains a small set of legal templates (need adjusting obviously) covering website user agreement, copyright etc.

Lies, all lies.

The AntiPolygraph.org site. Just don’t lie to us, OK?  Polygraph “testing” has no scientific basis, and America’s adversaries have long known how to fool the lie detector…This non-profit, public interest website is dedicated to telling the truth about lie detectors that those with vested interests in perpetuating the polygraph don’t want you to know…Did you know that it takes less training to give polygraph “tests” than it does to give haircuts? The longest polygraph school (run by the U.S. Government;…
